As I was sitting here wondering what I should write my first true crime blog on, I got a message from a friend and inside was a video of a mother, very distraught, begging the public for any information on her missing daughter. That video hit me hard and I’m the type that falls asleep at night watching some of the most disturbing true crime cases there are. (Ask me why? I don’t know🤔). I don’t know if it’s because she is from the same city I’m in, good ol’ Warren Ohio or if it’s because I’m a mother and felt Danielle Wilder’s pain as she spoke. Probably both, but that’s when I knew this had to be the first missing persons case I write about.
Jasmaine Michelle Smith, Age 22, was last seen June 5th, 2015. The day of her sister’s graduation party at the home of her family in the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue in Farrell Pennsylvania. Her family reported her missing on June 29th, 2015.
“It was probably a week, week and a half later. I’m her mother and I started getting worried I hadn’t heard from her. I contacted the people in our family that we know she would contact and nobody heard from her”. Mrs. Wilder told WFMJ.
Mrs. Wilder said Jasmaine Smith was living in Warren Ohio at the time of her disappearance, and, since she is an adult, the family took some time before reaching out.
Jasmaine Smith disappeared about a month before 18 year old Alesha Bell was reported missing. Alesha was also from Warren Ohio when she vanished.
James Elmer Brooks, formally from Warren Ohio, (pictured below), admitted to having contact with Alesha Bell the day she went missing. Brooks, a suspected drug trafficker who admitted to running an escort service from May 2014 to May 2015, was in jail on drug charges when the bones of Alesha Bell were identified. Her bones were found in a fire pit on the property of Mr. Brooks. James Brooks was charged with abuse of a corpse, but not murder, although the authorities believe Alesha Bell was the victim of a homicide.
Jasmaine’s mother says her daughter knew James Brooks and it is possible he is responsible for her disappearance.
“Yes, she knew him, some of her friends and associates of hers knew him as well”.
Mrs. Wilder says she just wants answers and is hoping someone will come forward.
“As a mother I’m just asking if somebody knows something please contact your local Police Department, Warren Police or Youngstown Police. I feel someone knows something about my daughter”.
It is unlike Jasmaine to be out of touch with family and friends for this long and her loved ones believe she could be the victim of human trafficking. Her case remains unsolved.
Jasmaine Michelle Smith has brown eyes, black hair, she’s 5’7″ and weighs about 145lbs. Anyone with information about her whereabouts can contact the Mercer County Department of public safety at 724-662-6110 or the Mercer County Regional Police Department at 724-983-2720.
My Theory: With everything I’ve learned about this case, I definitely think James Brooks had something to do with Jasmaine’s disappearance. It seems to me that it can’t be a coincidence that a man she knows is connected to the disappearance of another Warren female. Hopefully we will find out more information soon. When I do, I will update this post. What are your opinions and theories about this case? Comment below!
